It is rarely stubbornness. Sharp pins scratch the skin, a crowded pin bed tears at knots, and most brushes only skim the topcoat while the undercoat stays matted. The brush hurts, so the pet learns to avoid it.

The Woody Slicker's pins are arranged to work through tangles without dragging on the skin, so brushing feels closer to a massage than a fight. The natural wood handle stays comfortable in your hand through a long session.

What makes it different

How to use it

1. Brush in the direction the coat grows, in short strokes.
2. Work through mats gradually rather than forcing the brush through in one pull.
3. To clear the brush, run the hooked edge of the cleaning brush behind the pins. The cleaning brush is for clearing the pins — it is not for brushing your pet.
4. Do not pull hair out of the pins with your fingers. The pins are fine and can bend, and you can hurt your hand.

Questions

My pet really hates being brushed. Will this be different?
The pin bed is designed to work through tangles without scraping the skin, which is usually what pets are reacting to. Many pets settle once brushing stops hurting.

Can I use it on a short-coated pet?
Yes. It works on coats from short through long.

How do I clean it?
Do not soak it. See the care notes below — water trapped under the pin cushion is what ruins a slicker brush.

Care and safety

• Do not soak the brush in water. Water gets under the rubber pin cushion, struggles to dry, and leads to mildew or rusted pins.
• Clean it by removing hair and wiping the pins with disinfecting alcohol from a spray bottle.
• After spraying, stand the brush pins-down to dry so liquid cannot run down the pins into the cushion. Dry with a hairdryer on cool if you like.
• Because the handle is natural wood, the grain and colour vary a little from brush to brush. That is the material, not a defect.
